perfect.

Sure. Whatever.
Like I am ever gonna see it.

However which way perfection is reached, I reckon the frigging odyssey bloody well starts out with a plan, sticking to it, keeping scope as agreed, not making last minute changes prior to upload to server.

An exchange, three days ago (with an “expert”) : As I always do when I think the client is oblivious to an issue, and I want to cover my ass, I made sure I asked the question 3 times.

Me:

Okay, so when I export the final optimised HTML, do you want it:

  • referenced to base URL
  • relative references
  • DOCROOT

Response:

Yeah, DOCROOT is good.

Me:

Cool, so you know the issues about using DOCROOT vs. relatives; I want to avoid relatives, as these pages keep moving around.

Response:

Yeah, DOCROOT is good.

Me:

Just to confirm, I will be referencing all links and graphics, embedded objects, styles and so on to the root directory on the server.

Response:

Yeah, DOCROOT is good.

Me:

And you can host the test site from its own server

Response:

No worries mate.

3 days later (two of which have been bloody late late nighters) … I get his email:

it looks like some images are not displaying properly, etc. I think this is probably because it is expecting things to be at the top-level. peter had made all the links dependent on the home page being at the root level of the web server. not my preferred way of doing things. I'll see what I can do to fix.

because he placed it is a subfolder.

d'oh. Yes, after all the double checks, and testing and making everything frigging W3C compliant, the client goes and puts it in a subfolder of a subfolder of a subfolder ...

as someone quite knowledgeable said:

Marvellous. It takes all of 30 seconds to create a virtual host.

I'm glad you're dealing with them, I have little patience for such behaviour.

Yawanna eat tonight?

No, but I wanna make them eat their frigging hats.
They are sooo baaad at listening.

Oops ... speak of the devils ... Conference call to sort out this frigging mess. Train wreck anyone?
